Solar Energy Case Study

Abstract

Our country, Türkiye, needs to find a way to pay less for energy. The most well-known way to achieve this is through renewable energy resources. Several alternative energy sources are discussed and explained within the scope of Sustainability and Environmental Accounting. However, due to the country's geographical location, solar energy takes center stage. In recent years, the exponential growth of the world's population has expanded the human footprint on the planet. This expansion of human territory implies a reduction in habitat for animals and plants. Another fact is that world resources, especially energy resources, are diminishing to meet increasing demands. According to various reports, fossil fuel resources worldwide will be depleted in no more than 50 years. Due to the country's geographical location, solar energy has the potential to be a significant energy source. Our country, along with the rest of the world, should have effectively utilized solar energy, an important renewable energy source, within a few decades. In this study, we have examined the benefits of solar energy usage from an accounting perspective using a case study method. We believe it will particularly be beneficial to investors.
