The Cost of Unfair Competition: The Case of Haaland and Vargas

Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine whether the activities of players who have a strong physical ability in the area of sport in order to gain income for their own clubs lead to unfair competition when comparing with other players. Within this framework, players having strong physical ability in football and volleyball were addressed as a case study. Comparative tables were created related to the physical features and market values of these players with other competitors in own sports. Subsequently, revenue and cost analysis was performed by determining monetary and non-monetary costs and revenues for these athletes. As a consequence, it is observed that these players, having physically superior characteristics compared to other competitors, have success and championships for their teams. Thereby, many clubs or organizations desire to succeed by including these special people. Thus, these institutions bear the costs to acquire them. In conclusion, the teams bearing the costs of having these players take a significant advantage of comparing with others.
