The Effect of Self-Esteem on Individual Career Planning and Academic Motivation: A Study on University Students

Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine whether self-esteem has an effect on individual career planning and academic motivation. Relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the research. The population of the research consists of students studying at a state university. The students were selected according to the faculties they studied, according to the stratified sampling method. In this direction, over eight faculties, including education, science and literature, economics and administrative sciences, veterinary medicine, Islamic sciences, engineering, health sciences and sports sciences, were divided into layers and a total of 800 people, 100 from each layer, were selected. Data were collected by interviewing the participants face-to-face through a questionnaire. In the analysis of the data, Pearson Correlation and Regression analysis was used in line with the model and hypotheses of the research. According to the findings, self-esteem has a significant and positive effect on individual career planning and self-evaluation, recognizing opportunities and goal setting, which are the subdimensions of individual career planning. It has not been possible to plan the planning of selfesteem above planning. However, it was concluded that self-esteem has a significant and positive effect on academic motivation and on academic motivation in the sub-dimension of selftranscendence. The effect of self-esteem on the sub-dimension of using information and discovering academic motivation could not be determined.
